The Book Publishing Process

SIRG follows a structured process designed to ensure that proposed books are appropriate for publication and meet appropriate academic and editorial standards.

Step 1 — Develop Your Book Idea

Develop a clear and well-defined idea for your proposed book.

Before submitting a proposal, authors and editors are encouraged to consider:

  • The main subject and research area.

  • The intended readership.

  • The scholarly contribution.

  • The originality of the proposed work.

  • Existing books covering similar topics.

  • The structure and organization of the proposed book.

  • The expected length and format.

  • Whether the book is intended as a monograph, edited work, textbook, handbook, reference work, or another type of publication.

Step 2 — Review SIRG's Publishing Areas

SIRG considers scholarly projects across a range of scientific, technological, engineering, business, and related disciplines.

Authors and editors should ensure that the proposed book fits within SIRG's academic and publishing interests.

For interdisciplinary projects, the proposal should clearly explain the relationship between the contributing disciplines and the overall scholarly contribution.

Step 3 — Submit Your Book Proposal

Authors or editors should submit a book proposal to the SIRG Editorial Office.

A proposal should normally include:

  • Proposed book title.

  • Type of book.

  • Description of the proposed work.

  • Main objectives.

  • Intended readership.

  • Key features and contribution.

  • Table of contents.

  • Chapter summaries.

  • Author or editor information.

  • Institutional affiliations.

  • Estimated word count or page range.

  • Expected completion date.

  • Information about related or competing books.

  • Information about previous publication of any part of the proposed work, where applicable.

SIRG may request additional information when necessary.

Step 4 — Editorial Assessment

Submitted proposals are assessed by the SIRG editorial team for:

  • Academic relevance;

  • Originality;

  • Scholarly contribution;

  • Subject suitability;

  • Intended readership;

  • Quality and coherence of the proposal;

  • Alignment with SIRG's publishing areas; and

  • Feasibility of publication.

The editorial assessment does not guarantee acceptance or publication.

Step 5 — Academic or Expert Evaluation

Depending on the type and nature of the proposed book, SIRG may obtain additional academic or expert evaluation.

This may include:

  • Internal academic assessment;

  • External expert evaluation;

  • Peer review;

  • Technical review; or

  • A combination of appropriate assessment methods.

The nature and extent of evaluation may vary according to the type of book.

For example, a research monograph or academic handbook may require a more extensive academic assessment than a professional or technical publication.

Step 6 — Editorial Decision

Following the appropriate assessment, SIRG may:

  • Approve the proposal;

  • Request revisions or additional information;

  • Request a revised proposal;

  • Decline the proposal; or

  • Determine that the proposal requires further evaluation.

Acceptance of a book proposal does not necessarily constitute final acceptance of the completed manuscript.

The completed manuscript remains subject to the applicable editorial, quality, ethical, and production requirements.

Step 7 — Publishing Agreement

Where a proposal is approved for publication, SIRG and the responsible author(s) or editor(s) may proceed with an appropriate publishing agreement.

The agreement may address:

  • Copyright;

  • Licensing;

  • Author and editor responsibilities;

  • Editorial responsibilities;

  • Publication formats;

  • Permissions;

  • Delivery requirements;

  • Production procedures; and

  • Other applicable publishing terms.

All applicable terms should be communicated clearly before publication.

Step 8 — Manuscript Preparation and Submission

Following approval of the proposal, the author or editor prepares the complete manuscript in accordance with the applicable SIRG guidelines.

The manuscript may be subject to:

  • Editorial review;

  • Academic evaluation;

  • Technical review;

  • Language and formatting checks;

  • Reference and citation checks;

  • Copyright and permissions checks; and

  • Publication-ethics checks.

Authors and editors remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their submitted work.

Step 9 — Production and Publication

After the manuscript has successfully completed the required editorial and quality checks, it may proceed to production.

Production may include:

  • Copyediting;

  • Typesetting;

  • Cover preparation;

  • Metadata creation;

  • Proofreading;

  • Final author/editor approval; and

  • Digital publication.

Print publication may also be considered where applicable.

Open Access and Accessibility

SIRG supports the broad dissemination and accessibility of scholarly knowledge.

Books may be published under an appropriate open-access arrangement where such an arrangement has been agreed upon and is supported by the applicable publishing terms.

Where a book is published as open access, the applicable copyright and Creative Commons licensing terms will be clearly identified.

Authors and editors will be informed of the applicable licensing and publication conditions before publication.

Decisions must not be based on:

  • Payment;

  • Commercial interests; or

  • Other inappropriate external considerations.

No author or editor is guaranteed publication solely because a proposal has been submitted or because of an existing relationship with SIRG.

All books published by SIRG must comply with applicable principles of responsible scholarly publishing.

Authors and editors are expected to maintain high standards of:

  • Academic integrity;

  • Originality;

AI tools must not replace human responsibility for:

  • Authorship;

  • Scientific accuracy;

  • Originality;

  • Research integrity;

  • Citation accuracy; or

  • Final approval of the manuscript.

Authors and editors remain responsible for all content submitted for publication.

Confidential, unpublished, or proprietary material should not be entered into unauthorized AI systems.

Any applicable SIRG Generative AI Policy must be followed.

Book Series and Interdisciplinary Projects

SIRG welcomes proposals for coherent scholarly book series and interdisciplinary publications.

Book series should have:

  • A clearly defined academic theme;

  • A consistent scholarly purpose;

  • Appropriate editorial leadership; and

  • A clear target readership.

Each volume may be subject to individual editorial evaluation.

Interdisciplinary proposals should clearly explain the relationship between the contributing disciplines and the overall contribution of the project.

Internal Editorial Transfer

Where a submitted book proposal is considered more appropriate for another SIRG editorial area or publishing team, SIRG may consider an internal editorial transfer.

Any such transfer will be handled transparently and in accordance with the applicable SIRG publishing policies.

An internal transfer does not constitute acceptance or a guarantee of publication.

The receiving editorial team retains responsibility for evaluating the proposal according to its applicable editorial and scholarly requirements.

Post-Publication Corrections

SIRG is committed to maintaining the integrity of the published scholarly record.

If an important error is identified after publication, SIRG may publish an appropriate:

  • Correction;

  • Erratum;
